'Iris' plate 2 (detail) is a pattern by artist Maurice Pillard Verneuil from Eugène Grasset's book - Plants and Their Application to Ornament (London 1897).
This richly illustrated book created in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston was written to demonstrate how the forms of plants can inspire decorative art. Working in Paris, Grasset fused careful observation of nature with inventive stylised interpretations, creating designs that shaped textiles, architecture and the applied arts.
