Collection: Katazome-shi (Stencil-Dyed)

Strong and supple, Katazome-shi (stencil-dyed) paper is an excellent choice for covering books, boxes, lampshades, even lining furniture or framing.  Ideal for crafts such as origami, card-making, collage and a beautiful choice for gift wrapping.

Developed during the 20th century in Kyoto, these precious papers were originally inspired by traditional kimono printing techniques and patterns.

Each paper is printed by hand, one colour at a time onto kozo-sulphite mix, handmade paper.  The stencils are produced from persimmon-dyed kozo and aided by paste and "Kojiro" (soy bean juice), the pigments of the soy-based inks absorb deeply into the fibres resulting in vibrant and long-lasting colours.
