Sogara Paper - Kabuki
Sogara Paper - Kabuki
Sogara silkscreen papers are printed by hand and consist of a single image or several images on one sheet.
Ready to frame, this intricate artwork of 2 hand silkscreened images is based on woodblock prints of the Kabuki theatre.
Kabuki is a classical form of traditional Japanese theatre originating in the 17th century, known for its combination of song, dance, and acting, accompanied by music and featuring highly stylised performances with elaborate costumes, wigs and makeup. It emerged in the Edo period (1603-1868) as a popular form of entertainment for the common townspeople and now holds a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status. The top image is inside the theatre, the bottom image outside.
Using high quality, richly pigmented inks these exceptional papers are hand printed to a base paper made of kozo, each colour applied separately with precision and timing which results in a luscious, colourful and vibrant paper.
Each sheet measures approx. 990mm x 660mm, this is a full panel sheet with a white edge on all sides. The printed area is approx. 940mm x 600mm.
