Using high quality, richly pigmented inks the decorative papers are hand printed to a base paper made of kozo and sulphite, each colour applied separately with precision and timing. This results in luscious, colourful and vibrantly patterned papers.
Originally produced as woodblock prints in the Edo period and often inspired by textile and kimono patterns, today these papers are produced in several small studios around Kyoto.
